As the year 2022 ends, we look forward to a new year, 2023. Unless we continue to strive towards our goals, everything except the number 2023 will stay the same. As we challenge ourselves to move towards a change by growing daily, the need to get and share feedback is inevitable. When you need to approach a team member to give negative feedback, do you try to soften it by surrounding it with positive feedback too? Put a slice of praise on the top and bottom, and then stick in the middle with the criticism between these two slices. The feedback sandwich is a technique that many people use, but is it the optimum way to deliver feedback? Please ask yourself if you are using this method for the good of the receiver of the feedback or if it is to make yourself feel better when delivering it. One of the ways to overcome this is to understand first mindsets. Conflicts and disagreements can be mitigated using the Sandwich Technique with a proper perspective and can be used for giving criticism and feedback. Therefore, try to Compliment, Coach, and Encourage. First, Express praise and respect for your peer’s work with every detail you observe. The next would be to coach. As a coach, what improvements would you like to see made, as there is always room to improve. At last, end on a positive note and show that you are confident in their ability. Remember to be respectful of others and actively listen, accept and be sensitive to how you communicate your possible disagreement. If this circle works both ways, growth is on its way. In the end, People with different views and opinions can all learn from one another in the process of becoming better. So, change happens when we take action.
